“Hey guys, I discovered this unique Spanish chimney cap while strolling in downtown Santa Barbara the other day. It was a beautiful late March day… and a perfect day to shoot film.
The thing that I feel is special about this chimney cap is the terra-cotta cap itself, and we call that a “doghouse”. So, from the top of the plaster chimney on upward… is all terra-cotta clay. I like how the architect had installed the row of clay tiles along the top. You know, to make that “lip”. And then, of course the terra-cotta clay chimney cap itself.
This is a closed or enclosed thing to protect rain from entering down through the chimney. This is a classic Santa Barbara look with the off-white plaster and of course blue skies in the backdrop. We have basically 300 days of sun in this beautiful town, and I thought I would just quickly share this image with you.
I do have a wide variety of other images on Santa Barbara chimneys and chimney caps, and how we design and build them. And so, I will share a link at the top or bottom of this page, and you can explore more.
And please come back often. I have lots of different chimney caps and chimneys that I wanna share on the blog, but I thought this one was special for today”—Jeff Doubet, September 10, 2025
